Everest Hikers Face Blizzard: A Multi-Level English Learning Experience

A sudden blizzard near Mount Everest has left hundreds of hikers stranded and battling harsh conditions. The snowstorm, which began on Friday evening, intensified over the weekend, catching many tourists off guard during China's Golden Week holiday.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with local villagers and rescue workers clearing snow-blocked paths. So far, 350 people have been guided to safety in the township of Qudang. However, more than 200 hikers remain trapped at high altitudes, facing challenges such as deep snow and the risk of hypothermia.

Experienced hikers described the conditions as exceptionally difficult. One photographer, Dong Shuchang, reported that their group's windbreakers and raincoats were inadequate against the relentless snowfall. The snow depth reached about a meter, making movement treacherous and slow. Despite the dangers, rescue teams are in contact with all stranded hikers and are working tirelessly to bring them to safety.
