Robot Soldiers in Ukraine War

The war in Ukraine has become a high-tech conflict. Armed uncrewed ground vehicles, or UGVs, are now playing an important role alongside aerial drones and uncrewed boats.
Ukraine has launched a massive program to deploy these armed robots. The K2 brigade commands the world's first UGV battalion. These robots are equipped with machine guns and can operate in areas too dangerous for soldiers. Some UGVs are kamikaze vehicles loaded with explosives that silently approach and destroy enemy positions.
Human operators control the robots remotely over the internet. Although UGVs can move and detect enemies independently, a human must make the final decision to fire. This prevents mistakes and ensures compliance with international humanitarian law.
Ukraine faces severe manpower shortages, making UGVs increasingly valuable. Former commander Valerii Zaluzhnyi predicts that future warfare will involve AI-powered swarms of drones attacking simultaneously from multiple directions. Russia is also developing combat UGVs, and clashes between opposing robots are becoming more common on the battlefield.
