Shipwreck Mystery Solved

A team of divers has solved a maritime mystery that lasted for nearly 140 years. They discovered the wreck of the SS Nantes, a ship that sank off the coast of Plymouth, England, in 1888.

The SS Nantes met its tragic end after colliding with a German sailing vessel called the Theodor Ruger. Despite the crew's efforts to save the ship by using mattresses to plug a hole in the hull, it eventually sank, resulting in the loss of many lives.

Diver and explorer Dom Robinson identified the wreck by examining the site and finding pieces of crockery with the Cunard Steamship Company logo. This discovery was crucial in confirming the ship's identity.

Dr. Harry Bennett, an expert in maritime history, praised the dive team's work, comparing it to finding a needle in a haystack. The identification of the SS Nantes ensures that the memory of those who perished in the disaster will not be forgotten.
