A television advertisement for Twix chocolate bars has been prohibited due to concerns about promoting dangerous driving behavior. The commercial featured a dramatic car chase and crash, resulting in two identical cars stacked on top of each other, mimicking the appearance of a Twix bar.
Several complaints were filed against the advertisement, claiming it encouraged irresponsible driving. The company behind Twix, Mars-Wrigley, argued that the ad was meant to be fantastical and unrealistic. However, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which regulates advertisements, ruled that the commercial must be taken off the air.
The ASA acknowledged the fantastical elements of the ad but took issue with the first half of the video. They noted that it showed driving that likely violated traffic laws, with an emphasis on speed and visible skid marks on the road. The watchdog organization instructed Mars not to produce ads that condone or encourage irresponsible driving in the future.
