Uber Rolls Out Women-Only Option in the US

Uber has launched a new feature across the United States that allows female drivers and passengers to request trips with other women. The ride-hailing company tested this option last year, and feedback showed that women felt more comfortable and confident using the service.
The feature, called Women Preferences, gives women more control over their experience. Female passengers can book rides with women drivers in advance or adjust their app settings to increase the chances of being matched with a woman driver. In some cities, teenagers and their parents can also request women drivers.
However, the rollout has sparked controversy. Two male Uber drivers in California have filed a lawsuit claiming the feature discriminates against men by potentially giving female drivers access to more passengers. Uber has responded by saying the feature addresses important safety concerns and serves the public interest.
Currently, about one-fifth of Uber's US drivers are women. The company already offers similar women-matching options in over 40 countries worldwide.
