Uber to Test Driverless Taxis in London

Uber, the popular ride-hailing app, is set to trial robotaxis in London next spring. These autonomous vehicles will operate without a human safety driver at the wheel, marking a significant step in the development of self-driving technology.
The company is collaborating with Wayve, a UK-based artificial intelligence firm that has been testing its autonomous driving technology on London's streets. Currently, these tests are conducted with human oversight to comply with existing regulations.
This announcement follows recent changes in UK government rules regarding driverless cars. Initially, the government aimed to introduce this technology on British roads by 2026, later pushing the date to late 2027. However, they have now decided to implement an accelerated framework for small autonomous 'bus and taxi-like' commercial services, allowing for earlier deployment.
