Big Tech Backs Anthropic Against Trump Administration

Major American technology companies are backing Anthropic in its legal battle against the Trump administration. Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft have publicly supported Anthropic's lawsuit challenging Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's decision to label the company a "supply chain risk."

The conflict began when Anthropic refused to remove contract language preventing its AI tools from being used for mass surveillance and autonomous weapons. After weeks of failed negotiations, the government retaliated. President Trump announced Anthropic's tools would be removed from all government agencies, and Hegseth gave the company an unprecedented label as a security risk.

The tech companies filed legal briefs expressing serious concerns. Microsoft warned that the government's behavior could have "broad negative ramifications for the entire technology sector." Chamber of Progress, representing many tech firms, called the government's action a "temper tantrum" that threatens free speech rights.

Former military officials and tech employees also filed briefs supporting Anthropic. They argue the government's actions send a dangerous message about punishing companies for disagreeing with official policies.
